Building Better Administrators

Project Runspace reaches out to the next generation of server, datacenter, and cloud administrators. Whether you’re new to the workforce or switching careers, we welcome you to a fulfilling lifetime journey. We strive to contribute to your success with a freely available repository of resources for server administrators.

Project Runspace Goals

The vision of Project Runspace:

  • Produce server administrators with marketable skills in architecture and troubleshooting
  • Model professional, mature behavior suited for the modern workplace
  • Provide free, high-quality technical resources
  • Encourage interest in the vast world of computing technology outside of coding and user support
  • Bring technology learning material to those without access
  • Foster evidence- and data-driven problem solving
  • Promote an inclusive culture that embraces everyone

Plans for Project Runspace

While we ramp up, we provide the articles on this site. Once we reach our desired operational capacity, we will offer these additional services:

  • Full-length technical books
  • Instructional videos
  • Online workshops
  • In-person workshops

How You Can Help

Originally, we envisioned working directly in communities to reach individuals that have little or no access to the resources needed to succeed in this field. For many people, that might mean that they have no suitable computing device at home to even access online labs or workshops. To us, that meant establishing physical presences and making equipment available. The COVID-19 pandemic set that vision back severely. Continuing social problems and the persistence of dangerous, easily transmissible infections forced us to re-evaluate our model. While in-person operations remain a top desire, we will keep our focus on digital delivery for now.

What we need now:

  • Spread the word! Tell others about us, especially anyone looking to join the field.
  • Article ideas! Tell us what you need to know from the Contact Us page.
  • High quality technical resources to make free to the public, especially in the areas of:
    • Windows system administration
    • Linux system administration
    • Cloud administration
    • Digital security
    • Physical security (datacenter, office, etc.)
  • Article authors or videographers to create free content
  • Legal help; primarily forming and sustaining a 501(c)(3)
  • Hardware to use in labs (server systems, desktop systems, and network equipment)
  • Physical spaces for equipment, labs, and classes

What we will need in the future:

  • Financial resources
  • More teachers! We particularly prize diverse contributors, especially in language and geography, since we intend to grow our in-person offerings.
